Just Swipe It!

The new AGS Card-Swipe system: sign-ins are as simple as swiping your PCC ID card!

Instead of taking a ticket when you go to a General Meeting, or signing in on a list at Planning Meetings, you can now conveniently have your PCC ID card swiped at a laptop managed by one of our friendly board members.

Some events will also use the Card-Swipe system. So remember to bring your PCC ID card with you to events and meetings.

The AGS “Card-Swipe Sign-In System” (CSIS) was generously developed for us by the Computer Science club at PCC.

Two Great Scholarships at PCC

There are two scholarships available at PCC right now, with deadlines coming up soon.

Kathleen D. Loly Scholarship, due on April 6th, is for outstanding foreign language students who are also AGS members. That’s right, this scholarship is exclusive to AGS members. Visit C247 for more information or to get a copy of the application.

Kathleen D. Loly was born in England and emigrated to the United States. She taught Spanish at Pasadena City College, and was one of the original founders of Alpha Gamma Sigma in 1926, which explains why Pasadena is the Alpha Chapter of AGS. Prior to her death in 1958, she bequeathed her estate to AGS, and these monies formed the basis of a stock portfolio from which AGS derives its ability to award scholarships each year.

The Flea Market Scholarship is due May 1. From a pool of $20,000, awards will be given to candidates in 4 categories. For more information, contact Flea Market director Carrie Afuso in CC105 or at cmafuso@pasadena.edu

When the Pasadena City College Flea Market originated in the late 1970s, it was designed to benefit students through programmatic support and scholarships. To this day, the Market has maintained that designation.

Inter-Chapter Beach Social

Do you think AGS only exists on our campus?  Well it doesn’t.  Celebrate this upcoming Friday, Cesar Chavez Day, by joining AGS members from more than a dozen different community colleges scattered around Southern California.  Eat a variety of tasty foods, play sports, cook smores, warm up by a fire, and network with students you’ve never met but who share the same enthusiasm for community service and academic success that you do.  Sign up for the event at my.agspcc.org.  We’ll provide carpool.

April Blood Drive

The next Red Cross blood drive will be on Tuesday April 3rd, Wednesday April 4th, and Thursday April 5th at the PCC quad.

Sign up my.agspcc.org/events

Help recruit people to donate blood for April’s blood drive. You will either sit at a table to collect sign ups or walk around collecting sign ups. Also, if you donate blood yourself, then keep the card they give you afterwards (there’ll be a number on it) and turn it in to Briana (the recording secretary for AGS) at a general or planning meeting to receive one CS hour.

Come to the quad to the ARC table and ask the person in charge what you can do to help out. If they don’t need your help in the quad, then check Crevling Lounge (second floor of CC building right above the WiFi lounge).

There has been a rumor that BUDDY THE BLOODROP will attend. If so, earn hours by wearing the costume and acting silly! :D

If you would like to head this event, meaning collect the sign-in sheet for AGS and monitor our volunteers sign in properly, then please let me know in the comment box.
