There are two dates available! Saturday Novermber 17th, and Saturday November 24th.

Max of 2-3 people per shift

***WHAT IS BELLRINGING?***

The bell ringing season starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve, when the red kettles are packed away for the season. Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour – enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries, or shelter an individual for a night. When you volunteer to bell ring or give at a red kettle, you help improve, and even save lives. The money dropped in a kettle goes right back into your local community.

***HOW WILL MY SHIFT WORK?***

The Salvation Army has a volunteer who is in charge of all the stores for each Saturday. He will set up the equipment before the shift and take it down at the end of the day. He will bring two aprons and two bells for the volunteers to use during the day. He will visit each store throughout the day just to make sure everything is going well. Volunteers need to be at the store at the beginning of the shift. Volunteers may leave after the shift is over. Another volunteer from Salvation Army will be responsible for the equipment and kettle containing the cash, so you don't have to worry about that.
Since we're volunteering as an organization, you can sign up for the same shifts with your friends so it's even more fun.

***SOME TIPS FOR BELLRINGING (from the Salvation Army website)***

- Always have a pleasant attitude. Remember, you represent the spirit of Christmas and The
Salvation Army. Smile and say thank you!
- Be presentable. Make sure to dress in weather-appropriate clothing and if you received a
Salvation Army branded apron, windbreaker, etc., please wear it.
- Be gracious, even with people who don’t give. We don’t solicit for donations at the kettle,
we just make it fun and easy for people to give.
- Always stand at your kettle. Standing helps you remain engaged with the public and
focused on your task.
- Please don’t use your mobile phone unless
you are on a break or there’s an emergency.
- No eating or smoking at the kettle.
- Familiarize yourself with these sample talking points about kettle donations:

• Thanks for your donation to help people in need this Christmas and all year long.
• Your gift to The Salvation Army stays in this community to help our neighbors.
• If you’d like more information about The Salvation Army, you can learn more at www.usawest.org

***WHAT IF I DON'T SHOW UP?***

Two hours will be deducted for every hour you were supposed to be there. So if you were supposed to be there for two hours, you'll get four hours deducted. It is very hard for Salvation Army to find coverage for flakers last minute, and we want to keep a good relationship with them. IF you cannot make it to your shift, let us know two days in advance.
